Online Therapy
About Online-Therapy
-
Online therapy is a way for you to engage in therapy, using internet technology such as Zoom or Email
-
You direct your therapy by selecting the method of communication you feel most comfortable with
-
You choose the time, the place and the pace of your therapy to suit your needs
-
Suitable for Individuals 18 years and over
How it works
Webcam or Audio Therapy
Video Platforms are a way to still engage in face-to-face therapy, but with the convenience of online therapy.
-
Should you choose video therapy, you will be guided through setting up your own encrypted account
-
We will meet on the video platform during a time that has been previously arranged
-
If you wish you can choose to only work with audio on the video platform, then no video camera would be needed.
Your sessions are either 50 minutes (Counselling) or 60 minutes (Psychotherapy).
Interim Email Therapy
Email therapy may also be used between online sessions if you feel you need additional support
Full Email Therapy (Counselling Approach Only)
Therapy via email may better suit your needs if writing is the best way for you to express, this approach also gives you time to consider what you wish to say before sending it, as well as space between exchanges to reflect on the responses you receive.
Benefits of Online Therapy

Online therapy offers many certain benefits but there are also limitations that are worth bearing in mind when deciding which type of therapy will best suit your needs.
Things to Consider
-
Your comfort with using internet technology
-
The differences in face-to-face, audio or email therapy
-
Whether your situation is too complex to discuss via the internet
-
Whether you are able to access privacy without interruption
-
Whether you feel you can express your feelings better using text communication
-
That text communication can sometimes be open to misunderstanding
-
That no nonverbal cues or body language for you or the therapist to read within written communication can lead to unintentional misunderstandings

In An Emergency
Online Therapy is not sufficient support if at any point you feel you are experiencing an emotional or psychological crisis.
In this case, urgently contact your local accident and emergency (A&E) department at your nearest hospital and ask to speak to someone from the crisis team.
